3D Animal Sculptures

Here's a look into what 7th and 8th graders are working on in the art room.  They were challenged to come up with an animal they would like to sculpt and first began with a front and side view sketch.  When sketch is approved, they are ready to begin the construction process.  They are focusing on craftsmanship and the creative process in art standards 1 and 2.  There are great solutions happening as students solve the problem of how to go from a 2D sketch to a 3D sculpture and issues that happen along the way.  This project really gives them the opportunity to use their imaginations and creativity.  I am so excited to see these progress.  Stay tuned....

Pinch Pot Monsters

The Horrendous Takeover In Room 47

The 6th grade class of 2016-2017 is making clay pinch pots into monsters. Mrs.Eden has been working hard trying to keep them looking good and healthy. The class has been working for a week to complete these monsters and you might even see some of them in the art show. Mrs.Eden's expectations are that the students will have good creativity, craftsmanship and neatness. You should come to Hamilton Middle School to see the horrendous monsters. 3D Paper Bag Stars

This is the first post of year, as this year had a bit of crazy start!  Things are now getting back to normal and I'm excited to share what 5th graders have been creating.  They have been creating designs and patterns using line, shape and color to make 9 unique bags to create a 3D star.  When they finish, we will hang them up in the cafeteria.  Please have a look at some of the wonderful artwork by some awesome artists. Enjoy!!

We've been busy....

Life has been crazy busy in the art room.  7th and 8th graders wrapped up their self portraits and moved on to their block letter sculptures.  6th graders are glazing their monsters and 5th grade is currently working on plaster masks.  Here are a few photos from the last few weeks to see what we've been working on.

Construction Day

Today 7th and 8h graders are working on cutting out cardboard pieces to build their 3D letters.  After they get the letters cut out, then they will construct the 3D form and paper mâché.

Blind Contour Drawing

7th and 8th grade are doing blind contour drawing today.  It's an opportunity to train the brain to have the eyes and the hand work together.  It's like making a map or record of what the eyes see.  We are working hard to learn how to draw what we see, not what we know.  It forces observation of details and requires focus.

Adding the next element...

Today students are beginning to add color to their expressive lines.  I actually heard a student say, "this looks awesome."  It's exciting to hear them be proud of their own work and choice of materials.  Can't wait to see these strips all woven together.
