Blind Contour Drawing

7th and 8th grade are doing blind contour drawing today.  It's an opportunity to train the brain to have the eyes and the hand work together.  It's like making a map or record of what the eyes see.  We are working hard to learn how to draw what we see, not what we know.  It forces observation of details and requires focus.

Adding the next element...

Today students are beginning to add color to their expressive lines.  I actually heard a student say, "this looks awesome."  It's exciting to hear them be proud of their own work and choice of materials.  Can't wait to see these strips all woven together.

Plaster Masks

5th graders are working with a partner to make plaster masks.   Take a look at how hard they are working to apply the plaster neatly and carefully.  What a great experience and memory for them.

Variety of LINE

7th and 8th graders are working with the art element, line.  They have been challenged to create an expressive line with a variety of lines and varying thicknesses.  They are using sharpies to create the line, then will incorporate another element, color.  They will have the choice to add color using the art medium of their choice.  When they are done we will weave all the pieces together.

New trimester

Starting a new trimester with 7th and 8th grade students.  First thing to get done is sketchbooks.  They are busy measuring, scoring, folding, gluing and stitching pages in.  We use the sketchbooks for every project to generate ideas.
