Coil pots and Leanne's perspective on clay class

Helana and I are always so excited to come to clay class!! After fourth hour we rush to each others lockers and practically run to the art room! "This is the reason why I come to school!" Helana says. We love Mrs. Eden and her student teacher, Ms. Altieri, always helping us and teaching us new things. Clay class for sure is always the highlight of our day!!!

Glaze firing

We just opened the kiln and found these beautiful high school pinch pots.  As they cool, we can take them out and get them graded.  Then they can go home.  Some of them may not make it home,  I see some art show contenders here.

Pieces and parts for our Chihuly sculpture.

6th graders are working collaboratively to build a glass-like Chihuly sculpture.  They are also working as a group to find a place to hang the sculpture in the school.

Paper machine is so much fun!

7th graders are making progress on their guitars.  Stay tuned for more photos and up dates.

8th graders working on Surrealism Collages

8th graders are creating fantasy/dream-like collages, using magazines.  They are combining items that don't normally go together, to create surreal images.  They looked at the work of Salvador Dali, and are exploring ways to express ideas through juxtaposition, dislocation, transformation and scale.

Good times!

8th graders working on Op Art

Off to a great start!

We are off and creating in the art room.  Students are working hard on a variety of projects and learning to use materials in new ways.  It's going to be a great year!  We currently have Megan Altieri joining us from Hope College.  She will be student teaching until mid October and then she will be heading to an elementary placement in Hudsonville.  Please keep checking in to see what we are up to, and to stay informed with what's going on in the Art room.
